Frequently Asked Questions

Common questions from homeowners

How much does a new gutter installation typically cost?

The cost of a gutter system varies based on the linear footage of your roofline, the material chosen (aluminum vs. copper), and the complexity of your home (number of stories and corners). For a standard Maryland home, seamless aluminum gutters are an affordable, high-performance choice. We provide detailed, written estimates so you know exactly what to expect before work begins.

Do you charge for a gutter estimate?

No. At Shepherd & Sons Inc., we provide free, no-obligation estimates. We will visit your property, measure your roofline, inspect your fascia boards, and provide a comprehensive quote tailored to your home’s specific needs.

Does the price include the removal of my old gutters?

Yes. Our estimates are "turnkey," meaning they include the removal and eco-friendly disposal of your existing system, the on-site fabrication of your new gutters, and a complete cleanup of your property.

Is there a price difference between 5-inch and 6-inch gutters?

6-inch gutters do have a slightly higher material cost because they use more aluminum and carry more water. However, for homes with steep roofs or heavy tree cover, the added protection they provide against overflow is well worth the incremental investment.

How does being MHIC-licensed affect the price?

As an MHIC-licensed contractor (#51349), our pricing reflects the use of high-quality materials, professional-grade equipment, and full insurance coverage (Liability and Workers' Comp). While "unlicensed handymen" may offer lower prices, they often lack the insurance that protects you, the homeowner, from liability.
